| Immunogen | Rabbit corneal epithelial keratin |
| Clone | AE5 |
| Concentration | Please refer to the Certificate of Analysis for the lot-specific concentration. |
| Host | Mouse |
| Specificity | The antibody reacts with the 64 kDa polypeptide (cytokeratin 3; Keratin K3) of corneal epithelium and keratin K76 (cytokeratin K2p) of palate epithelium. As such this represents an excellent marker for studying corneal epithelial-type differentiation. Also recognizes bovine snout and lip epithelium, as well as a rabbit corneal cell line. |

| Entrez Gene Number |
|
| Entrez Gene Summary | The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the keratin gene family. The type II cytokeratins consist of basic or neutral proteins which are arranged in pairs of heterotypic keratin chains coexpressed during differentiation of simple and stratified epithelial tissues. This type II cytokeratin is specifically expressed in the corneal epithelium with family member KRT12 and mutations in these genes have been associated with Meesmanns Corneal Dystrophy. The type II cytokeratins are clustered in a region of chromosome 12q12-q13. |

| UniProt Summary | FUNCTION: SwissProt: Q01546 # Probably contributes to terminal cornification. SIZE: 638 amino acids; 65871 Da SUBUNIT: Heterotetramer of two type I and two type II keratins. DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Synthesized during maturation of epidermal keratinocytes. SIMILARITY: SwissProt: Q01546 ## Belongs to the intermediate filament family. MISCELLANEOUS: There are two types of cytoskeletal and microfibrillar keratin: I (acidic; 40-55 kDa) and II (neutral to basic; 56-70 kDa). |
