| Biological Information | |
|---|---|
| Immunogen | Rabbit anti-Cortactin (Y421) polyclonal antibody was raised against a peptide corresponding to residues surrounding phosphorylated Y421of human cortactin. |
| Epitope | phospho-specific (Tyr421) |
| Host | Rabbit |
| Specificity | Recognizes Cortactin phosphorylated on tyrosine 421. Cortactin is an 80-85 kDa actin-binding protein, which consists of a variety of protein domains. The nature and function of these domains, coupled with the presence of multiple consensus sites for phosphorylation by tyrosine and serine/threonine kinases, suggests that cortactin integrates activation of specific signaling pathways with cytoskeletal reorganization. |

| Entrez Gene Number |
|
| Entrez Gene Summary | This gene is overexpressed in breast cancer and squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck. The encoded protein is localized in the cytoplasm and in areas of the cell-substratum contacts. This gene has two roles: (1) regulating the interactions between components of adherens-type junctions and (2) organizing the cytoskeleton and cell adhesion structures of epithelia and carcinoma cells. During apoptosis, the encoded protein is degraded in a caspase-dependent manner. The aberrant regulation of this gene contributes to tumor cell invasion and metastasis. Two splice variants that encode different isoforms have been identified for this gene. |
