Description:

Timentin is the name used to refer to a two-part broad spectrum antibiotic consisting of ticarcillin disodium and clavulanate potassium. Ticarcillin is a semisynthetic antibiotic derived from penicillin that causes cell death of bacteria during cell division by blocking peptidoglycan linking in the cell wall. The clavulanate potassium component, meanwhile, acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor, allowing Timentin to act effectively against bacteria that have developed beta-lactam antibiotic resistance.

This compound has broad-spectrum antibiotic activity effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Effectively inhibits proliferaiton ofAgrobacterium tumefaciens, S. epidermis, and E. coli.

Applications:

Clinically, Timentin is used to treat a wide variety of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial infections in multiple infection sites throughout the human body. Administration of Timentin can be indicated by infections of bones, skin, the lower respiratory system or the urinary tract. More severe infection-related conditions, including septicemia and peritonitis, can also be treated using Timentin.
