Lansoprazole (Item No. 13627) is a proton pump inhibitor that irreversibly inactivates the H⁺/K⁺-stimulated ATPase pumps in parietal cells, inhibiting gastric acid secretion and increasing intragastric pH.¹ It is a 1:1 racemic mixture of (R)-lansoprazole and (S)-lansoprazole, both of which are pharmacologically active.² (R)-Lansoprazole is an enantiomerically pure form of lansoprazole. It can inhibit acid formation in isolated canine parietal cells with an IC₅₀ value of 59 nM and inhibit the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase with an IC₅₀ value of 4.2 µM.²
