17-DMAG (17-Dimethylaminoethylamino-17-demethoxygeldanamycin) is a synthetic derivative of the antibiotic geldanamycin. It belongs to the class of compounds known as Hsp90 (heat shock protein 90) inhibitors. Heat shock proteins, including Hsp90, play a role in celluLar processes and are involved in the folding and stabilization of other proteins, known as client proteins.
The primary function of 17-DMAG is to inhibit the activity of Hsp90, leading to the degradation of client proteins that are dependent on Hsp90 for stability.
