TCEP hydrochloride is a non-thiol reducing agent used to reduce and break disulfide bonds. TCEP HCl is widely preferred to the similar reducing agent DTT because of its greater effectiveness and resistance to oxidation from air exposure.
TCEP HCl finds wide use in biochemical research due to its ability to reduce disulfide bonds in proteins and peptides. Along with DTT, TCEP HCl is frequently used as a main reducing agent in studies of proteins and their properties. Under some circumstances, TCEP HCl can even be employed for a simultaneous process of reduction and digestion of proteins featuring disulfide bonds. The advantage of this process is the increase in sequence coverage it is capable of producing.
