Description:

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is a potent chelating agent. The agent chelates metal divalent cations such as calcium, magnesium, zinc and copper ions. By removing divalent cations, it minimizes metal ion contamination and used for a bacterial agent.

It may be used for chelation therapy for heart disease by removing toxic metals. It is reported that combination of EDTA-tromethamine (EDTA-Tris) and specific antimicrobial agents, such as cephaloridine, kanendomycin and enrofloxacin, possibly enhances antibiotic effects against resistant Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
