Revvity SMN (Survival of motor neuron) is a 38-kD protein that is ubiquitously expressed in both the cytoplasm and nucleus. SMN plays an important role in assembling snRNP particles and is involved in RNA editing and transport. A lower expression of SMN has been correlated to the onset of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), an autosomal recessive disorder that is the leading hereditary cause of infant mortality, characterized by a loss of motoneurons in the spinal cord.
