Revvity Inteferon-alpha (IFN-α) is a cytokine involved in innate immune response against viral infection. It is produced by leukocytes and other cell types like plasmacytoid dendritic cells. There are many IFN-α subtypes, with molecular weights ranging from 15 to 21 kDa. They all possess the same antiviral activity, but may differ in their relative biological activities. IFN-α also exhibits several antiproliferative and antitumor activities, making it one of the most used cytokine treatments in cancer patients suffering from hairy cell leukemia, renal carcinoma, Kaposi’s sarcoma, and other malignancies. Under physiological conditions, a low level of IFN-α is detected. Revvity AlphaLISA technology allows the detection of molecules of interest in a no-wash, highly sensitive, quantitative assay. In an AlphaLISA assay, a biotinylated anti-analyte antibody binds to the Streptavidin-coated Donor beads while another anti-analyte antibody is conjugated to AlphaLISA Acceptor beads. In the presence of the analyte, the beads come into close proximity.
