Revvity Interleukin-18 (IL-18) is an 18 kDa cytokine produced by Kupffer cells, activated macrophages, keratinocytes, intestinal epithelial cells, osteoblasts, and adrenal cortex cells. IL-18 is involved in the production of interferon-γ (IFN-γ) in response to toxic shock and shares functional similarities with IL-12. IL-18 works together with IL-12 to induce cell-mediated immunity following infection with microbial products like lipopolysaccharides (LPS). IL-18 is also able to induce severe inflammatory reactions, which suggests a role in certain inflammatory disorders. In an AlphaLISA assay, a biotinylated anti-analyte antibody binds to the Streptavidin-coated Donor beads while another anti-analyte antibody is conjugated to AlphaLISA Acceptor beads. In the presence of the analyte, the beads come into close proximity.
