Human malignant mesothelioma

This cell line was derived from the pleural fluid of a patient with malignant mesothelioma. The patient had known exposure to crocidolite asbestos. NO36 is not tumourigenic in nude mice. Cells express cytokeratin and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) but not mucin. Cells are thick and stellate shaped with vacuoles. Cell Bank Australia reference number: CBA0142

Investigation of the properties of malignant mesothelioma cells and the development of new diagnostic methods.

RPMI 1640 (with 2mM L-Glutamine+25mM HEPES) + 5% FCS

Optimal split ratio 1:8 (seeding density 104 cells/cm²).Cells incubated at 37°C with 5% CO₂.Harvest the cells using 0.05% Trypsin/EDTA at 37°C for 5 min.
