FM-3.26 (ESTDAB-009) was established from a metastatic tumour of a 70-year old female patient. The FM-3.26 cell line is one of more than 170 characterized melanoma cell lines collected during the ESTDAB project (European Searchable Tumour Line Database) part of the European Commissions fifth framework infrastructures programme (contract no. QLRI-CT-2001-01325). ESTDAB contains information on HLA genotype and surface expression of HLA molecules, expression of tumour antigens, antigen processing capability, production of and response to cytokines and chemokines, apoptosis regulation and expression of adhesion/accessory molecules. Such information allows researchers to identify cells possessing specific parameters important for studies of immunity, immunogenetics, gene expression, metastasis, response to chemotherapy, and other tumour biological experimentation.

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) seed new cultures at 2-4 x 10,000 cells/cm² using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO₂; 37°C.
