General description

Ammonium hydroxide is a weak base mainly used as a source to prepare other ammonium compounds like urea, ammonium carbonate and ammonium sulfate etc.

Application

Ammonium hydroxide solution can be used to study chromatography, base solutions, analytical reagents, titration and volumetric solutions. Ammonium hydroxide solution has been used to develop a single-laboratory validation by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry for the determination of total iodine (M/z 127) in infant formula and adult nutritional products. Ammonium hydroxide solution has also been used to develop a sensitive liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method to quantify miglustat in mouse plasma and in human plasma, which has improved treatment of patients with cystic fibrosis.
