Gastrin releasing peptide receptor (GRP-R) belongs to the g protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) family.[1] The gene for the gastrin‐releasing peptide receptor is located on the short arm of human X chromosome.[2]

Application

Bombesin acetate salt hydrate has been used in immunohistochemical methods[3] and food intake measurements.[4]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Bombesin/gastrin releasing peptide (BN/GRP) serves as an autocrine growth factor in small cell lung cancer (SCLC).[5] Overexpression of gastrin releasing peptide receptor (GRP-R) is associated with neuroblastoma tumor aggressiveness. GRP-R modulates the important enzymes, that participates in glucose metabolism.[1] Bombesin, a pulmonary growth factor helps to satisfy the conditions for autocrine stimulation.[5]

Tetradecapeptide originally isolated from the skin of the frog Bombina bombina. Bombesin acts at specific brain nuclei to inhibit food intake. It also increases blood glucose levels.
