Revvity Butyl-PBD Scintillator, 100 g

Butyl-PBD, IUPAC preferred name 2-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-5-(4-phenylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole, has an aromatic ring structure fundamental for fluorescent properties.

Butyl-PBD is often paired with secondary scintillator Bis-MSB which acts as a wavelength shifter to re-emit light in the ultraviolet (UV) or visible ranges which is essential for detecting with PMT based detectors.

Butyl-PBD has a molecular formula of C₂₄H₂₂N₂O, a melting point between 137 - 139°C and a fluorescence maximum of 365 nm. The exact fluorescence maximum can vary slightly depending on the solvent used.
