General description
Our NMC622 is a cutting-edge cathode active material powder composed of lithium, nickel, manganese, cobalt, and oxygen in a nominal ratio of 60% nickel, 20% manganese, and 20% cobalt. This advanced composition provides superior energy density and specific capacity compared to traditional cathode materials like NMC111. NMC622 powder exhibits an optimized crystal structure and morphology, enabling excellent electrochemical performance, thermal stability, and long cycle life in lithium-ion battery applications.
Application
As a promising next-generation cathode material, NMC622 is particularly well-suited for high-energy applications such as electric vehicles and grid energy storage systems. Its high nickel content delivers increased specific capacity (>175 mAh/g at 1C discharge rate) while minimizing the amount of toxic cobalt. The primary advantage of NMC622 compared to other compositions like NMC811 is the impressive thermal stability that is expected to result in enhanced battery safety. For example, NMC622 is much more stable than NMC811 when charged to 4.5 V vs. Li/Li+ and is more stable at higher temperatures, exhibiting an order of mangitude lower rate of self-heating than NMC811. Not only do these characteristics improve the safety of the battery, but lead to improved capacity retention.
