PiggyBac transposable element-derived protein 5 (UniProt: Q8N414; PiggyBac domain-related protein 5, PiggyBac transposase 5) is encoded by the PGBD5 gene (Gene ID: 79605) in human. PGBD5 is an endogenous human DNA transposase-derived protein that acts as a site-specific oncogenic mutator in human tumors, and able to promote DNA rearrangements of piggyBac-like transposons in human cells. PGBD5 is involved in genomic rearrangements affecting genomic stability but is also hypothesized to contribute to genomic diversity as well. Expression of PGBD5 is notably high in neuronal cells in the brain, in embryonic stem cells and certain cancer cells, suggesting a role in neural development and tumorigenesis. Its deficiency may cause disorder of intellectual ability, movement, and seizures. PGBD5 has been implicated in the development of pediatric and young-onset solid tumors, such as rhabdoid tumors and medulloblastomas, where it promotes oncogenic genomic DNA rearrangements. As a result, PGBD5 is being studied as a potential biomarker for certain cancers and as a target for therapeutic intervention. (Ref.: Henssen, A.g., et Al. Quality Control Testing

Evaluated by Western Blotting in g-401 cell lysate.
