KRAS is a small GTPase that belongs to the family of RAS oncogenes. It is involved in a number of biological processes, including cell survival, proliferation, and metabolism. Numerous cancer subtypes have mutations in KRAS, which cause unchecked cell growth and changes in cell metabolism. Thus, in cancer cells, KRAS contributes to the Warburg effect. KRAS binds to GDP in its inactive form and to GTP in its active form, just like most other small GTPases.
