Also known as hematopoietin 1, IL1 alpha is a pro-inflammatory cytokine mainly produced by activated macrophages, and epilial and endolial cells. Its main role is maintenance and protection of skins barrier function. In response to infection, IL1 alpha stimulates fibroblast proliferation, increases blood neutrophils, and activates lymphocyte proliferation.
