General Description

A glucopyranosyl urea compound that acts as an inhibitor of muscle glycogen phosphorylase (K_i= 930 nM). Displays a mixed type of inhibition. Enhances glucose sensitivity in chow-fed, obese, diabetic mice and increasing hepatic glucose uptake. Reduces blood glucose levels and increases hepatic glycogen content in C57/BL6J mice. Shown to increase mitochondrial oxidation in Hep2G cells under normoglycemic conditions. Enhances the expression of uncoupling proteins2 (UCP2) in HepG2 cells.
