| Description | Anti-Adenosine Receptor A2a Antibody, clone 7F6-G5-A2 |
| Alternate Names |
|
| Background Information | Adenosine receptors, a class of purinergic G-protein coupled receptors with adenosine as endogenous ligands mediate several receptor subtype-specific physiological processes that include cardiac rate, smooth muscle tone, platelet aggregation, inflammation, cell growth and death, and neurotransmission. The activity of A2A adenosine receptor is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylyl cyclase. It is abundant in basal ganglia, vasculature and platelets and it is a major target of caffeine. Adenosine receptor A2A-R contributes to motoneuron survival by transactivating the tyrosine kinase receptor TrkB and may suggest a new strategy for using this mechanism in neurodegenerative diseases. |

| Entrez Gene Number |
|
| Entrez Gene Summary | This gene encodes a protein which is one of several receptor subtypes for adenosine. The activity of the encoded protein, a G-protein coupled receptor family member, is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylyl cyclase. The encoded protein is abundant in basal ganglia, vasculature and platelets and it is a major target of caffeine. |
