| Specificity | Recognizes human Monocarboxylate Transporter 4 (MCT4). The immunogen shows no significant sequence homology with other MCT. MCT4 is prominently expressed in skeletal muscle and other cells with high glycolytic rate such as tumors cells and white blood cells suggesting an important role in lactic acid efflux. Each MCT appears to have slightly different substrate and inhibitor specificities and transport kinetics, which are related to the metabolic requirements of the tissues in which it is found.
