| Description | Anti-Beta III Tubulin Antibody |
| Background Information | Tubulins, major components of the cellular cytoskeleton, form microtubules that are critical for cellular structure, migration, cell division, and intracellular trafficking. There are at least three types of tubulins: alpha, beta, and gamma. Each has a molecular weight of approximately 55 kDa. Microtubules are large structures (300 angstrom diameter) composed of alternating alpha and beta subunits. Compounds that block microtuble formation, such as Taxol and the vinca alkaloids, inhibit cell division and are effective anti-cancer agents. Class III β-tubulin is a microtubule element expressed exclusively in neurons, and is a popular marker specific for neurons in tissue. |

| UniProt Summary | FUNCTION: SwissProt: Q13509 # Tubulin is the major constituent of microtubules. It binds two moles of GTP, one at an exchangeable site on the beta chain and one at a non-exchangeable site on the alpha-chain. SIZE: 450 amino acids; 50433 Da SUBUNIT: Dimer of alpha and beta chains. DOMAIN:SwissProt: Q13509 The highly acidic C-terminal region may bind cations such as calcium. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the tubulin family. |

| Storage and Shipping Information | |
|---|---|
| Storage Conditions | Stable for 6 months at 2-8°C in undiluted aliquots from date of receipt. It is recommended that the antibody be stored in the dark. During shipment, small volumes of product will occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial. For products with volumes of 200 µL or less, we recommend gently tapping the vial on a hard surface or briefly centrifuging the vial in a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container’s cap. |
