| Specificity | Clone 581 reacts with the class III CD34 epitope is resistant to neuraminidase, chymopapain and glycoprotease. The antibody reacts with a single-chain 105-120 kDa heavily O-glycosylated transmembrane glycoprotein which is expressed on haematopoietic progenitor cells, vascular endothelium and some tissue fibroblasts. The intracellular chain of the CD34 antigen is a site of phosphorylation by activated protein kinase C suggesting a putative role in signal transduction. CD34 may also play a role in the adhesion of specific antigens to endothelium. |

| UniProt Summary | FUNCTION: SwissProt: P28906 # Possible adhesion molecule with a role in early hematopoiesis by mediating the attachment of stem cells to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or directly to stromal cells. Could act as a scaffold for the attachment of lineage specific glycans, allowing stem cells to bind to lectins expressed by stromal cells or other marrow components. Presents carbohydrate ligands to selectins. SIZE: 385 amino acids; 40716 Da SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Selectively expressed on hematopoietic progenitor cells and the small vessel endothelium of a variety of tissues. DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: On early hematopoietic progenitor cells. PTM: Highly glycosylated. & Phosphorylated on serine residues by PKC. DISEASE:SwissProt: P28906 # Abnormal CD34 expression in leukemogenesis. SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P28906 ## Belongs to the CD34 family. |
