| Description | Anti-Histone Antibody, clone H11-4 |
| Background Information | There are 5 main histone proteins involved in the structure of chromatin in eukaryotic cells. The five major classes of histones are H1/H5, H2A, H2B, H3, and H4. Histones H2A, H2B, H3 and H4 are known as the core histones, while histones H1 and H5 are known as the linker histones. Histones feature a main globular domain and a long N terminal tail which are involved with the structure of the nucleosomes of the beads on a string structure. They are the chief protein components of chromatin, acting as spools around which DNA winds, and play a role in gene regulation. |

| Immunogen | Purified nuclear fractions of HeLa cells |
| Clone | H11-4 |
| Concentration | Please refer to the Certificate of Analysis for the lot-specific concentration. |
| Host | Mouse |
| Specificity | The antibody binds specifically to an antigen determinant, which is present on all five histone proteins. The antibody recognizes the histones H1, H2A, H2B, H3 and H4 with comparable sensitivity. |
| Isotype | IgG1 |
| Species Reactivity |
|
| Species Reactivity Note | Due to the highly conserved nature of histones, this antibody is predicted to have wide species reactivity. |
| Antibody Type | Monoclonal Antibody |
| Entrez Gene Summary | Histones are basic nuclear proteins that are responsible for the nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. Nucleosomes consist of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a histone octamer composed of pairs of each of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4). The chromatin fiber is further compacted through the interaction of a linker histone, H1, with the DNA between the nucleosomes to form higher order chromatin structures. |
