Millipore Mouse Anti-Stella Antibody Detects Level Of Stella & Has Been Published & Validated For Use In Elisa & Ic. - Mill (Additional S&H or Hazmat Fees May Apply)
Stella is specifically expressed by oocytes, pluripotent cells and primordial germ cells at the time of their emergence in gastrulating embryos, and is an important maternal factor in the cleavage stages of mouse embryos (Bortvin, 2004). The requirement for stella in germ cell specification remains controversial, however, most embryos from stella deficient mice failed to develop normally and rarely reach the blastocyst stage (Bortvin, 2004; Payer, 2003). The stella gene encodes a protein with an SAP-like domain and splicing factor motif-like structure, suggesting possible roles in chromosomal organization and RNA processing (Payer, 2003).

Entrez Gene Summary
This gene encodes a protein that in mice may function as a maternal factor during the preimplantation stage of development. In mice, this gene may play a role in transcriptional repression, cell division, and maintenance of cell pluripotentiality. In humans, related intronless loci are located on chromosomes 14 and X.
