Miltenyi Biotec Clone REA493 recognizes the mouse and rat CD49a antigen, a 180 kDa single-pass type I membrane protein also known as integrin a1 (Itga1). CD49a binds to CD29 (integrin B1) to form the heterodimeric integrin very late antigen 1 (VLA-1), which has been found to be widely expressed on various cell types, including mesenchymal cells, epithelial cells, macrophages, NKT cells, and T cells. VLA-1 is a receptor for laminin and collagen and interacts, via the I-domain of the extracellular domain of the CD49a subunit, with collagen molecules in the extracellular matrix.
