(+)-cis,trans-Abscisic acid is a natural, active isomer of a plant hormone. The compound is involved in several roles including seed germination, stress response, embryogenesis, regulation of transpiration, and acts as a signal of reduced water availability.

The most effects of ABA seem to be adaptive responses that promote water conservation in plants by reducing water losses and slowing growth. (+)-cis,trans-Abscisic acid is also a plant growth regulator which has high-affinity binding sites on plasmalemma of Vicia faba guard cells.

ABA regulates gene expression of hundreds of plant genes through complex interactions of intracellular signaling systems. Seed dormancy, stomatal movement, leaf abscission and plant stress responses are several physiological mechanisms this compound is also involved in.

Applications:
