| Catalogue Number | ABT45-25UG |
| Description | Anti-Claudin-5 (rabbit polyclonal) |
| Alternate Names |
|
| Background Information | Claudin-5, a transmembrane protein deleted in velo-cardio-facial syndrome (TMVCF), seems to be involved in endothelial tight junctions. Claudin-5 has been exclusively found in the cell-cell borders of endothelial cells. Lower claudin-5 levels in sinusoidal endothelial cells could lead to their dysfunction during liver injuries. Levels of claudin-5 in tumor vessels could be a potential marker for hepatocellular carcinoma prognosis. The loss of claudin-5 function has been linked to carcinogenesis. |

| Entrez Gene Number |
|
| Entrez Gene Summary | This gene encodes a member of the claudin family. Claudins are integral membrane proteins and components of tight junction strands. Tight junction strands serve as a physical barrier to prevent solutes and water from passing freely through the paracellular space between epithelial or endothelial cell sheets. Mutations in this gene have been found in patients with velocardiofacial syndrome. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]. |

| UniProt Number |
|
| UniProt Summary | FUNCTION: Plays a major role in tight junction-specific obliteration of the intercellular space (By similarity). SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Directly interacts with TJP1/ZO-1, TJP2/ZO-2 and TJP3/ZO-3. Interacts with MPDZ (By similarity). SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell junction › tight junction. Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. SEQUENCE SIMILARITIES: Belongs to the claudin family. |
