Background Information
Aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator-like protein 1 or alternatively, Basic-helix-loop-helix PAS protein MOP3, Brain and muscle ARNT-like 1, Class E basic helix-loop-helix protein 5 (bHLHe5), Member of PAS protein 3, PAS domain-containing protein 3, bHLH-PAS protein JAP3, and encoded by the human gene ARNTL,BHLHE5, BMAL1, MOP3 or PASD3, is a protein belonging to the basic helix-loop-helix-PAS domain containing transcription factor family. ARNTL protein is important for the molecular mechanisms behind circadian rhythms as it interacts with a number of CLOCK (Circadian Locomotor Output Cycles Kaput) family members as well as CLOCK itself to promote transcription of a number of proteins of the circadian clock. ARNTL interacts with CRY and CRY2, PER, TIMELESS, and other clock related genes as well as non-CLOCK proteins such as HIF-1alpha (HIF1A) and SUMO3. ARNTL appears critical for proper function of rhythms, as only knockouts of ARNTL in mice generate mice that have upset biological clocks and a shorter lifespan. ARNTL is highly expressed in the adult brain as well as skeletal muscle and heart and ARNTL is a nuclear localized transcription activator. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-ARNTL mouse monoclonal antibody has been tested in western blot against recombinant transfected protein and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human spleen tissue sections.
