Interferon gamma (IFN-γ) is produced by lymphocytes, primarily activated T lymphocytes, that are involved in inflammatory immune responses. It functions as a potent activator of macrophages, increases the antiviral and antitumor effects of the type I interferons and has antiproliferative effects on transformed cells.
