Miltenyi Biotec Clone REA490 recognizes the rat antigen CD172a, a 75–110 kDa glycosylated receptor-like protein, which is also known as SIRPα or SHPS-1. It binds to its ligand CD47, which inhibits cytokine production by mature dendritic cells (DCs) and avoids maturation of immature DCs. SHPS-1 plays a role in the negative regulation of receptor tyrosine kinase–coupled cellular responses induced by cell adhesion, growth factors, or insulin and mediates negative regulation of phagocytosis, mast cell, and DC activation.
