Miltenyi Biotec Clone REA140 recognizes PAX-5, which belongs to the paired box (PAX) gene family of transcription factors. PAX-5 is the only mammalian PAX transcription factor, which is expressed in hematopoietic cells. Within the hematopoietic cells, expression of PAX-5 is limited to cells of the B-lymphocyte lineage and it exerts transcriptional control of B cell commitment, development, and tumorigenesis. PAX-5 contains DNA binding conserved ‘paired’ domain, which consists of an N- and a C-terminal subdomain. Each subregion contains a homeodomain-like helix-turn-helix motif, which binds to a half-site of the PAX-5 recognition sequence. Depending upon the interaction partners, PAX-5 serves either as an activator or repressor of transcription.
