PIPES free acid, also known as 1,4-piperazinediethanesulfonic acid, is a Goods buffer notable for having a pKa value similar to ordinary physiological pH. As such, PIPES free acid is frequently used as a buffer in biochemical research.
 

PIPES free acid has found its way into a number of different areas of research owing to its buffering properties. Research on Goods buffers as a class has investigated their potential as bases of biocompatible ionic liquids as well as their efficacy for regulating pH in IVF processes.
