Sigma-Aldrich 1-Octanol Reagentplus 99%

1-Octanol (n-Octanol) is an ionic liquid[1] and a linear alcohol having an aromatic odor.It has a relatively high boiling point, low water solubility and moderate viscosity.[2] It can be synthesized from capric esters via catalytic hydrogenation.[3] Its oxidative decomposition in the presence of anchored photocatalysts (anchored titanium oxide catalysts and standard TiO₂ powder) has been investigated.[4] Its liquid-phase oxidation to 1-octanal in the presence of Ti/Si binary oxide catalysts has been reported.[5] It has gained wide recognition as an extraction solvent in analytical chemistry.[1]

1-Octanol may be used in the preparation of crystalline poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) membranes.[6]
