| Description | Anti-Myelin Associated Glycoprotein Antibody, clone 513 |
| Alternate Names |
|
| Background Information | Myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG),a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, is a membrane glycoprotein of 100 kDa, and is thought to be involved in the process of myelination. Axonal regeneration in the adult central nervous system (CNS) is limited by two proteins in myelin, Nogo and MAG. MAG has been implicated in the inhibition of nerve regeneration in the CNS. |

| Entrez Gene Number |
|
| Entrez Gene Summary | The protein encoded by this gene is a type I membrane protein and member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is thought to be involved in the process of myelination. It is a lectin that binds to sialylated glycoconjugates and mediates certain myelin-neuron cell-cell interactions. Two alternatively spliced transcripts encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. |
